A Fabulous Vacation

The Glasgows just got back from an awesome vacation in Savannah, Georgia. We went to see our wonderful friends, Luke and Courtney Brewer. Luke just graduated from the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a masters in computer animation. We went to Hilton Head and Savannah with Luke and Courtney back in 2004 and never dreamed they'd live here one day. We knew we had to go visit before they move again. Also, Clay had a conference to attend in Atlanta, so it really worked out.

Here is our vacation in pictures: We drove through Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and finally Georgia. Here is our rest stop in Red Banks, MS where I fed Gracie in the back of the car.

Gracie asleep at the Red Roof Inn somewhere near Atlanta. And finally, the moment we were waiting for.......reuniting with the Brewers! Well, Lucy Brewer, that is! Gracie rode in her big girl umbrella stroller for the first time. She loved being able to look around! Here we are in front of the Georgia Queen on the famous Riverwalk. It is so beautiful down here! There are a ton of cute shops on the Riverwalk. The guys and GraceSavannah is full of beautiful parks in the Historic District. Each park, or square, has either a fountain, a statue, or just beautiful flowers. Isn't this one gorgeous? The Historic District is full of awesome boutiques and shops. My faves were The Paris Market (we're pictured in front of it--and be sure to check out the "G" in our entryway next time you're at our house--it's from here), At Home, Savannah Fine Linens, and Paperie. My one regret--that I didn't buy more! The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Beautiful! All the gold painting is genuine gold leaf paint. For lunch one day we went to J. Christopher's. It had all kinds of artwork from SCAD students. I had some yummy salmon over a spinach salad here--delish!Our hotel at the edge of the Historic District--The Comfort Suites, I think?!? Should have taken a pic when the beds were made! Definitely spacious and comfortable. One night Luke and Court came over and while we kicked back, Gracie slept......in her pack n' play........in the bathroom! It was big! We spent a lot of time in Luke and Courtney's fabulous apartment. It is an old building with original hard woods, and notice the fireplace in the background. We played a Scene It movie game that I was really bad at (I got the Breakfast at Tiffany's question right!), but was totally fun. Courtney was also very sweet and cooked a lot of our meals. Delicious quiche, roast with all the fixins', and tortilla soup with the best layer dip I've ever had! It was fun to just chill with our friends and eat yummy food! Gracie had lots of fun with her auntie CourtneyClay had to ride Luke's scooter around the neighborhood. Did I want to ride? No way--I was picturing a scooter, you know, one of those things we road when we were kids. This was, in my book, a motorcycle, and I chose not to ride! :)Here is Luke and Courtney's neighborhood in Ardsley Park. What a beautiful place to call home! This fountain is a famous landmark in Savannah, located in Forsyth Park. Can you believe it was purchased out of a catalog back in the day?The galsWe planned on getting dessert at this cool place, The Old Pink House. It has beautiful architecture and old fireplaces, and was so neat. The only table available, though, was in the tavern area, and they wouldn't let us have it because of the minor in our party. Really? Instead, we went to Leopold's where I had THE BEST, I MEAN THE BEST ice cream I've ever had in my life. Courtney, please go have another scoop of Savannah's Honey Almond in a sugar cone for me! I think Gracie was tired of shopping at this point....This is the saddest picture to me! Because it's the one I took as we left Luke and Courtney's apartment and headed to Atlanta. But look how beautiful it is! I love how the tree branches reach across the street. I am such a fan of Spanish Moss! A beautiful town, wonderful friends. Thank you God for this time! Our hotel in Atlanta, The Waverly. Nice! Gracie and I just chilled in the hotel all day while Clay soaked up knowledge. We had planned on going to the Aquarium (world's largest!), but I wasn't comfortable driving by myself--7 lanes of traffic for just one direction! Crazy! I decided that I am a small city girl.Gracie practicing sitting up. "I have been driving a lot, mom and dad!"
"I'm so bored, I think I'll eat my foot!"
The end! I have some videos to post when I have the patience. Gracie did great on this trip. Miss you already Luke and Courtney!

Family Reunion and a Growing Girl

We recently spent a day in Nashville, AR, birthplace of the Glasgow clan (Clay's dad and his siblings). We had a wonderful time catching up with family (and eating some really good food!). This was also a time for the family to talk about John. Please continue to pray for our family, especially around the holidays.

Here we are with all the cousins, spouses, and some of the kids.
Gracie with her aunt Miriam Grace. Miriam gave Gracie her first winter coat! It's pink! Clay's parents, the siblings, and spouses Our family, minus Matt. Matt and Dana are in the process of moving to Springfield, MO. Matt has already begun his new job as children's minister at Fellowship in Springfield. Praying feet? Farm feet pj's from aunt Melinda Glasgow. These are 6 month pj's, but the fit! I just have the sleeves rolled up. So cute! She's totally growing up! Gracie spent this evening just chatting away. She's such a good baby. When she gets just a little fussy, we put her down to bed, and she happily goes! I love you, Gracie!

You break it, you buy it...

Well, in preparation for our trip to Savannah I thought I'd buy a new pair of jeans and maybe a long sleeve t-shirt or two to get in the mood for fall, and to tide me over before it's time to break out my sweaters. Gracie and I headed out to Old Navy this morning, ready to accomplish this task. I head out down the road and realize I've forgotten the stroller and Old Navy doesn't have any buggies to put the car seat in. Oh well, I think. I'll just carry Grace, pick up a couple of things and try them on at home. I first head to the clearance rack. Mostly summer stuff, but one cute navy blue sweatshirt. The price was torn off, but I picked it up and figured I'd ask about it. Most of the other items on the rack were $5.99 and other great prices, so I figured it wouldn't be too bad. We walked around the store some more when I heard Gracie spit up. It sounded big, but all I saw was a little spit up on her mouth. I was dry and I didn't hear a "splat" on the cement floor, so I figured all was good. But why would I write a story with such a boring happily ever after? Sure enough, spit up covered the sweatshirt. Bummer! Needless to say, I bought a new sweatshirt. The moment of truth was going up to the register...would it be a great deal? Remember, it was on the clearance rack. Sorry, but no cigar. The sweatshirt must have been put there accidentally and was full price. But thankfully full price was only $24.50. If you know me well, though, you know I'd rather not pay full price for anything....but at least I wasn't shopping in a leather store.

Oh, and the jeans....did I really think I could just buy a pair of jeans without trying them on? They'll have to be returned of course....

Lessons learned....don't forget the stroller and maybe don't shop with the Grace child. :)

New Stats

Gracie is now 4 months old as of Oct. 6th! She had her 4 month checkup with Dr. Byrum yesterday and is doing well! The nurse asked about her different milestones--holding hands together, grapsing at objects (which she then puts in her mouth :), smiling, and holding her head up. Gracie is doing all of these things well! She is also laughing a lot, but of course, we haven't been able to catch it on video. Here are her latest stats:

Weight: 13 pounds 8 ounces (50%)
Height: 24 7/8 inches (75%)
Head Circumference: 15 7/8 inches (25%)

I asked the doctor if head circumference was linked to brain size and development and the doctor said "Yes, it is." But before I could freak out, he assured me that they only begin to worry if a child's head is 5% or less and that 25-50% is normal. He said a smaller head will not determine future intelligence. He seemed to contradict himself, but I guess he just meant that an unusually small head could be trouble, but that Gracie is just fine. Whew!

One friend asked for some updates, so here are some things going on in our world. We definitely used Baby Wise to get Gracie on a schedule, but we used it somewhat flexibly. It was a great guide, but it has not been my bible, and I haven't really looked at it in a couple of months. We're kind of settling into our own routine and I like the way it's going. Gracie starting sleeping through the night at about 2 months or so. Now her last feed of the day is around 8:30 and she sleeps until 7 the next morning. Yahoo for that! We are still nursing and I am thankful it's going so well. We're going to hold off on solid foods for another couple of months--this is free! Gracie naps really well and is generally a very happy baby. The past month she hasn't really had a fussy time consistently in the evenings, for which we are very grateful! I love my baby soooooo much and we are so blessed by her.

More pics to come!

Two Parties and More Tummy Time

I had a great time this weekend hosting a kitchen themed wedding shower for my girlfriend of 18 years, Jill (4th grade baby!). Can you believe it's been that long, Jill? We have shared a lot of memories together and I was thrilled to help with her shower. Here pictured is April (friend since Jr. High through Park Hill), me, my room dawg from OBU- Laura, Jill, Sara (college friend), and Rachel (friend from Park Hill).
While I was partying with the girls, my girl had a daddy-daughter date. Gracie and Daddy went to Reagan's 2 year old birthday party. Love the party hat!
And Gracie continues to get stronger and better at tummy time.
